Antony reveals home burglary during Betis' Champions League win
MADRID, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Real Betis winger Antony revealed Thursday that his home was burgled while he was playing in his team's 3-2 Champions League victory over Porto the previous night.
The Brazilian helped Betis secure the win, setting up Cucho Hernandez for the equalizer at 2-2, but later discovered that thieves had broken into his home during the match.
"I am sharing this today because of a very sad and infuriating situation. A night that had every potential to be brilliant ended in outrage and frustration," Antony wrote on social media.
The winger described the distress of having his home invaded, saying the emotional impact outweighed the loss of possessions.
He said it was difficult to "describe the feeling of having one's personal space invaded," adding that the worst part was "not just the material loss, but the sense of insecurity within the very place where we should feel safest."
However, Antony stressed that his family's safety remained his overriding concern.
"No material possession in the world is more valuable than the lives and well-being of my family," he wrote.
"Everything we lost can be regained. The work continues, our dreams remain, and our drive to succeed stays as strong as ever."
Antony is the second high-profile footballer in Spain to report a robbery in less than 48 hours.
Villarreal goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi missed his team's victory over Napoli on Tuesday after he and his family were victims of an armed robbery. No one was injured in the incident.
Gulacsi returned to training Thursday but described the ordeal as "extremely traumatic" and "difficult to accept."
