Clarence Seedorf takes charge of Brazil's Corinthians
RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua)
Former Netherlands midfielder Clarence Seedorf has been appointed manager of Corinthians, the Brazilian club said on Sunday.
The 50-year-old replaces Fernando Diniz, who was sacked last Wednesday following a 2-1 loss at Internacional, the club's seventh straight league defeat. The deal runs until December 2027.
"It's an honor but also a great responsibility to take on this challenge," Seedorf told the official Corinthians website. "I'm here to give everything I have and build a team that fights for every ball, every minute, every victory."
Seedorf is due to arrive in Brazil in the coming days and is expected to take charge of the Sao Paulo-based club for the first time in its home clash against Vitoria on October 19.
The former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan player has not coached since ending a brief spell in charge of Cameroon in 2019. He has also managed AC Milan, Shenzhen FC and Deportivo La Coruna since ending his playing career in 2014.
It will be Seedorf's second experience in Brazilian football, having spent 18 months as a player at Botafogo before announcing his retirement. ■
