Yemen's Houthis claim attack on Riyadh, heralding escalation in tensions with Saudi Arabia
Yemen's Houthi group said Saturday that it had launched large-scale attacks targeting the Saudi capital Riyadh and Yanbu, a major industrial and energy hub on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, marking a major escalation in the confrontation between the two sides.
In a statement broadcast by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the operations involved "a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones."

Software defect blamed for major British air traffic disruption
A software defect lasting only a fraction of a second triggered a major failure in Britain's air traffic control system earlier this month, leading to more than 2,000 flight cancellations, the country's air navigation service provider said Friday.
In an initial report on the Sept. 8 incident, the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said the defect occurred "in the space of a millisecond" and caused corrupted data in a system supporting the management of British airspace.
Death toll from blast, militant attack in NW Pakistan rises to 31
The death toll from a suicide bombing and subsequent militant attack in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has risen to 31, including 17 policemen, six civilians and eight terrorists, rescue workers said Saturday.
More than 130 policemen and civilians were injured and shifted to various hospitals, Bilal Faizi, spokesperson for the state-owned Rescue 1122 service in the province, told Xinhua.
Google's Gemini hacks 3 real companies in security test
Google confirmed Friday that its Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model accessed the protected systems of three real companies during a cybersecurity test in May, mistakenly treating them as authorized targets.
Heather Adkins, Google's vice president of security engineering, said in a statement that during a standard evaluation, Gemini used publicly available information on the internet and guessed login credentials to access three websites it believed were part of the authorized test environment.
11 soldiers killed in explosion at military site in E. Syria
Syria's Ministry of Defense on Saturday held a funeral for 11 of its personnel killed in an explosion at a military site in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour a day earlier, according to state media.
The funeral procession was held at the National Hospital in Deir al-Zour city for the 11 servicemen killed in Friday's explosion in the Ayash area west of the provincial capital.
