Myanmar minister sees promise in Heilongjiang's ice-and-snow tourism, advocates deeper tourism cooperation
HARBIN, China, July 12 (Xinhua) -- "Heilongjiang's ice-and-snow tourism is highly distinctive, and I believe more and more Myanmar people will fall in love with this place," said U Maung Myint, Minister of Hotels, Tourism and Culture of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, after visiting the Dream Ice and Snow Pavilion of Harbin Ice-Snow World recently.
The minister was invited as a special guest to the eighth Tourism Industry Development Conference of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China.
At the Dream Ice and Snow Pavilion in Harbin, the provincial capital, ice sculptures, indoor snow scenery and ice-and-snow entertainment facilities drew him to stop and look around from time to time.
"Southeast Asia currently lacks similar indoor ice-and-snow venues. After returning to Myanmar, I will actively recommend Harbin's Dream Ice and Snow Pavilion to local people, so that more Myanmar people can learn about Heilongjiang's distinctive indoor ice-and-snow tourism projects," he said.
"Harbin's ice-and-snow tourism has developed into a distinctive brand with year-round appeal," U Maung Myint said, noting that in the past, outdoor ice-and-snow projects were generally limited to winter due to climatic and seasonal conditions, while indoor ice-and-snow projects have overcome those seasonal constraints.
Such projects, he added, will help transform ice-and-snow tourism from a seasonal highlight into a year-round attraction, while inspiring Southeast Asian countries to develop distinctive tourism products.
During the tourism conference, U Maung Myint said he experienced Heilongjiang's distinctive tourism routes firsthand. He believes Myanmar tourists will show strong interest in such attractions as Harbin Ice-Snow World and Xingkai Lake in Jixi City, which hosted the provincial tourism conference from July 8 to 9.
He also suggested further developing tourism routes linking Xingkai Lake with the Russian Far East to offer cross-border tourism products with distinctive regional features.
U Maung Myint believes Harbin's reputation as a "city of music" is also an appealing cultural tourism asset, adding that the city's cultural charm is worth experiencing up close for Myanmar tourists.
Speaking of China-Myanmar tourism cooperation, the Myanmar minister said the tourism resources of Myanmar and Heilongjiang are highly complementary, with one known for tropical climate and the other for cold-region attractions. The two sides can carry out more targeted cooperation in promoting ice-and-snow tourism, facilitating mutual tourist exchanges, and developing year-round tourism products.
Looking ahead, Myanmar hopes to discuss the "two countries, one destination" concept under the framework of the Greater Mekong Subregion, which envisions multiple countries in the region working together to develop joint tourism routes.
"We look forward to further strengthening cooperation between Myanmar and Heilongjiang, and we also hope to help Heilongjiang expand its tourism market in Southeast Asian countries," he said. Enditem
