Chen, Loy to battle for table tennis gold at Youth Olympics
DAKAR, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Taipei's Chen Min-hsin and Singapore's Loy Ming Ying will vie for the women's table tennis singles gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games on Thursday.
The 17-year-old Chen, ranked fifth in her age group in the world, delivered a solid and composed performance to sweep past Japan's Miku Matsushima 4-0 (12-10, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6).
Despite being just 13, Miku, the younger sister of men's world No. 1 Sora Matsushima, leads the world rankings in both the U15 and U17 categories and sits second in the U19 rankings.
In the other semifinal, Singapore's Loy Ming Ying stunned world No. 2 Su Tsz Tung from Hong Kong, China, 4-2 (5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9).
In what marks China's worst-ever performance in Youth Olympic table tennis, Li Hechen and Yao Ruixuan have both been eliminated from their respective singles events after earlier exits in the mixed doubles.
