Bragantino beats Santos to raise top-four hopes

RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Bragantino kept alive its hopes of a top-four finish with a 2-1 home victory over Santos in Brazil's Serie A on Monday.

Defender Rodinei gifted the hosts the lead with an early own goal before Philippe Coutinho equalized by finishing clinically following Gabriel Barbosa's pass.

Wallace Yan restored Bragantino's advantage as he headed in after Henry Mosquera's cross.

The visitors had several chances to equalize in the second half but were denied by a series of sharp saves from goalkeeper Tiago Volpi.

Bragantino is now eighth in the 20-team standings with 47 points, ahead of ninth-placed Santos on goal difference with four matchdays remaining for both teams.
