IRGC says Hormuz Strait not to be opened if U.S. refuses to accept Iran's conditions
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened if the United States does not accept Iran's conditions, according to the IRGC's official news outlet Sepah News.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi told reporters that the strategic waterway remains under Iranian control and no vessel can pass through it without Iran's permission.
"All the enemy warships are at least 400 km away from the Strait of Hormuz, and from the military and territorial perspectives, no vessel is able to pass through this waterway without Iran's permission and management," Mohebbi said, adding that even the route near Oman is fully under Iranian control while underlining that the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran and Oman.
U.S. plans phased return of diplomats to Middle East embassies: NYT
The Trump administration plans to return diplomats to embassies in the Middle East that were evacuated before and during the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, with some personnel potentially returning as early as this week, The New York Times (NYT) has reported.
U.S. embassies in Israel, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Oman, Iraq and Kuwait are among the missions expected to increase staffing, the report said Tuesday, citing an internal U.S. State Department document and three U.S. officials.
According to the document obtained by the NYT, the first diplomats to return will be at the U.S. embassy in Lebanon, though the embassy would not reach full staffing under the plan.
157 killed in floods in northern Nepal: police
The death toll from flash floods in northern Nepal has reached 157, police said Wednesday night. Another 41 people injured in the floods are being treated in hospitals, according to a police statement.
At least 14 infants killed in Islamabad hospital fire
At least 14 infants were killed when a fire broke out in the gynecology ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences here on Wednesday, police sources said.
The fire broke out at around 6:40 a.m. local time (0140 GMT) in the gynecology ward area on the third floor of the hospital, where children were present, the sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The hospital administration launched rescue operations, while fire brigade personnel, ambulances and police rushed to the scene. Several children were reportedly rescued from the ward.
World's largest gaming expo Gamescom 2026 kicks off in Cologne
The world's largest trade fair for computer and video games Gamescom kicked off here on Wednesday.
The trade fair is open to trade visitors and media representatives on Wednesday and the five-day event is attended by more than 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries and regions, over 70 percent of whom are international companies.
Jointly organized by the Cologne Exhibition Center (Koelnmesse) and the German Games Industry Association, Gamescom 2026 features game tryouts, Cosplay shows, board and car games, artist zone, campus recruitment and sales of game-related products on a total exhibition area of 233,000 square meters at the Cologne Exhibition Center.
