Iranian parliamentary committee approves Hormuz Strait security action plan: media

The Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy committee has approved the general outlines of a strategic action plan to "ensure the security and sustainable progress" of the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf, the official news agency IRNA reported Sunday.

The plan was discussed at a committee meeting and approved without opposition, IRNA quoted committee spokesperson Hassan Qashqavi as saying.

Qashqavi said lawmakers reviewed submissions from relevant Iranian bodies before endorsing the plan's general framework.

The legislation was formally introduced to the parliament on July 13, according to IRNA.

Iran tightened its grip on the strait on Feb. 28, barring safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States following their joint strikes on Iranian territory.

Netanyahu says Israel rejects U.S.-backed 15-point Gaza peace plan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sunday that Israel rejects a 15-point Gaza peace roadmap plan presented by the U.S.-led "Board of Peace," maintaining that Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed.

The announcement marks Israel's first official and straightforward rejection of the plan.

Netanyahu told the weekly cabinet meeting that Israeli forces, which Israeli officials had previously estimated control about 70 percent of Gaza, will continue to carry out attacks in the enclave to "thwart threats."

"When I say disarming Hamas, I mean the heavy weapons, the less heavy weapons -- all weapons," Netanyahu said.

Israel is still in talks with the United States about the document of the plan, he said.

Houthis claim missile, drone attacks on Saudi-backed forces in W. Yemen's Mocha

Yemen's Houthi group claimed Sunday it launched a large-scale attack with ballistic missiles and drones on Saudi-backed forces in the strategic Red Sea port city of Mocha in western Yemen's Taiz Province.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said in a statement on social media platform X that the operation targeted troop gatherings and weapons depots in Mocha, causing "widespread destruction" of weapons and military equipment, and killing or wounding dozens of personnel, including Saudis.

Chicago weekend shootings leave 3 dead, 10 injured

At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in U.S. Chicago due to multiple shootings over the weekend, according to media reports.

As many as eight shootings took place by 8:22 a.m. on Sunday, according to a report by CBS Chicago. Three people died and nine others were injured, including two in critical condition.

Moreover, a 35-year-old man was shot in the head in the early hours on Saturday and was in critical condition.

No arrests were made in the above shootings, according to the report.

Statistics showed that in the 12 months ending April 7, 1,878 victims of gun violence were reported in Chicago and 356 had died.
