Iran's president, FM vow defense of national interests

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with visiting Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Tehran separately on Monday, each stressing Iran's resolve to defend its national interests and security.

"Negotiation is meaningless with an enemy that resorts to acts of assassination, sanctions, pressure, and threats on a daily basis, and breaks its promises," Pezeshkian said in his meeting with Mirzoyan, according to a statement published on the website of his office.

"So far, they (the United States) have attacked us three times following talks, which demonstrates that they are not seeking dialogue, but rather aiming to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran's establishment," Pezeshkian said.

Yemen's Houthis claim strikes on multiple Saudi targets, Saudi-led coalition says foiled Red Sea plot

Yemen's Houthi group said late Monday that it struck airports, an oil facility and military sites across Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones, while the Saudi-led coalition said it foiled a Houthi plot targeting southern Red Sea waterways.

In a statement broadcast by the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the group launched three operations on Saudi soil, the first targeting King Khalid International Airport in the capital Riyadh.

The second targeted an Aramco refinery in Rabigh, a Red Sea coastal city in western Saudi Arabia, he said, claiming that the attack caused a fire.

UN chief voices deep concern over escalation in Yemen

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply concerned by increased fighting in Yemen and condemns Houthi attacks, a UN spokesperson said Monday.

"The secretary-general has wanted the sides to de-escalate tensions, and he continues to want that," said Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson for Guterres.

The spokesperson added that Guterres does not believe that further militarization of the conflict, including involvement by outside powers, will be helpful.

Floods kill 31 in Thailand, waters recede in Bangkok

Floods across Thailand have killed 31 people and affected about 4.14 million others since Sept. 16, authorities said on Monday.

According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, nearly 3.52 million people in 26 provinces and the capital are still facing floods.

Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Monday ordered agencies to speed up drainage, relief, and post-flood recovery as the Southeast Asian country braces for a new round of rain and high tides.

S. Korea accuses DPRK of planting landmines south of MDL, demands apology

The South Korean military on Monday accused the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) of planting landmines south of the military demarcation line (MDL), demanding an apology from Pyongyang.

Kwon Dae-won, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), told a press briefing on the final investigation results that South Korean soldiers, who performed routine demilitarized zone (DMZ) operations south of the MDL, sustained severe injuries due to plastic anti-personnel landmines planted by the DPRK south of the MDL.

Kwon explained that the conclusion was based on the joint on-site investigation between the South Korean military and the United Nations Command from Sept. 26 to 29.
